With Spaghetti, Gilles Mihalcean creates a sculpture evoking an eclectic cosmic meal, where the worlds of play, the table, and the cosmos intersect. Fragments of cheese, pieces of table, and cauldrons combine with interchangeable spherical forms, transforming the perception of the work depending on its positioning. Encircled by two bases that blur notions of top and bottom, the sculpture appears to float in space, inviting the viewer to mentally reconstruct the meal it suggests. By assembling both made and found objects, Mihalcean subverts their original function and challenges perception, making his works open visual metaphors whose narrative shifts with the viewer’s gaze, while also prompting philosophical reflection on humanity, the social body, and its identity anchoring.
