Born in Colombia in 1998, Kimberly Orjuela is a visual artist who lives and works in Montreal. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Concordia University in 2023. Her practice is rooted in her Colombian cultural heritage and her experience as a Latin American woman living in Canada. Her work draws in particular on the knowledge, symbols, and pre-Columbian Indigenous cosmologies of Colombia, which she approaches from a contemporary perspective shaped by questions of identity, memory, and transmission.
Working primarily in ceramics, Orjuela develops a figurative sculptural language in which ancestral references meet contemporary experiences. Shapes, bodies, and symbols become means of exploring the connections between land, heritage, and identity. Her practice thus brings pre-Columbian legacies into dialogue with her own migratory experience and the realities of an identity shaped between Colombia and Canada.
