A key figure in contemporary art in Quebec, Cozic is a two-headed, four-dimensional artist born of the imaginations of Monic Brassard and Yvon Cozic, nourished by a tangible reflection on the use of unusual materials. At the end of the 1960s, when they decided to work under the single name of COZIC, the two artists wanted their creations to question their artistic ego. The gleaning, accumulation and amalgamation of found objects infuses a new semantics, a new meaning to the language of art. Through his attitude and practice, Cozic is a trailblazer, an opener of doors. Some fifty solo exhibitions, over two hundred group shows and some twenty public artworks bear witness to his exceptional creative vitality and his importance to the visual arts.
Monic Brassard was born in Quebec in 1944. She received her Bachelor of Arts from UQAM in 1970. Yvon Cozic was born in France in 1942. He graduated from the Beaux-Arts de Montréal in 1963.
The couple are recipients of numerous awards and bursaries, including the prestigious Bourses de carrière Jean-Paul-Riopelle 2012, and the Prix Paul-Émile Borduas 2015.
