    Sfiya

In her practice, Sfiya addresses questions related to migration, identity hybridity, uprooting, heritage, and memory. Distinguished by her rich palette of blues and oranges, the artist incorporates symbols drawn from Maghrebi and Mediterranean cultures into her paintings, while evoking superstitious beliefs and rituals passed down from generation to generation. Through her creations, she explores how these ancestral traditions transform and evolve within a migratory context. Navigating the boundary between dream and reality, Sfiya’s works—imbued with both surrealism and melancholy—transport us to an elsewhere, an in-between space where past and present, the Maghreb and North America, converge.

Born in Canada, Sfiya grew up in Morocco before moving to France, where she completed a master’s degree in architecture, and later settled in Montreal in 2017. Her work has been presented in various art events and exhibitions in Montreal and Quebec City, including the Art Souterrain Festival (2022).
