    Jocelyn Robert

    Jocelyn Robert is an interdisciplinary artist based in Québec City who has been exploring and transforming visual, media, sound, and digital art for over 30 years. As a researcher, performer, writer, teacher, and designer, he brings humor and poetry to an original practice focused on the connections between human beings and technology.

    A committed figure in the development of Québec’s artistic community, he founded the artist-run center Avatar in 1993, dedicated to audio and electronic art, and contributed to the creation of the Méduse cooperative.

    Holding a Master’s degree in arts from Stanford University in California, he has taught at Mills College (Oakland, California), the Université du Québec à Montréal, and the School of Art at Université Laval, which he directed from 2012 to 2017.

    As an author, his writings have been published by Le Quartanier (Montréal), Ohm Éditions (Québec), Errant Bodies Press (Los Angeles), and Semiotext(e) (New York), and have appeared in numerous major art event catalogues, including those of Ars Electronica and Sonambiante in Germany.

    The recipient of numerous awards and grants, he was appointed to the Ordre des arts et des lettres du Québec in 2023—a prestigious distinction awarded to individuals whose outstanding achievements contribute to the artistic and literary vitality of Québec.
