We are pleased to announce the integration of of HI & LO (Devant Pieter Claesz) by Julien Boily into the permanente collection of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec.
Inspired by the work of the old masters of European painting, Julien Boily plays with irony by painting still lifes composed of shapes representative of modern merchandise using a technique—painting—that has withstood the test of time.
Through his recent compositions with an allegorical flavor and the representation of various materials that furnish our daily lives (plastics, particle boards, chrome surfaces, electronic components), Julien Boily articulates an original commentary on human production. With the nostalgic character of his paintings, the artist invites us to reflect on our relationship with objects and the memories attached to them.
We sincerely thank the MNBAQ for its trust and the generous donor who made this acquisition possible.
