We’re launching 2024 with Collecting : Perspectives on Painting, the third iteration in a series of exhibitions devoted to the art of collecting, this time focusing exclusively on painting. By bringing together works from the secondary market with those of contemporary creators, this exhibition aims to bridge the gap between two generations of artists, in a dynamic, open-minded approach to the history of art.
With careful consideration and care, we have selected important works by historical artists who not only left an indelible mark on the art world, but also profoundly changed the socio-political landscape of Quebec. Their influence remains tangible in current practices and will undoubtedly endure in the works of the artists of tomorrow.
The exhibition, by establishing unprecedented aesthetic parallels, brings to light through various correspondences, certain continuities and ruptures that have marked painting over the past 75 years, while also delving into technical and stylistic innovations that were made possible, in part, by the integration of new technologies in painting.
